Good Time to Get Your House in Order

Getting an audit notice is a good time to make sure all of your documentation is in place.  If it is not, you have ample time to fix that.  Find out what you need to document your deductions and get it ready.

Follow our documentation suggestions, keep journals, keep mileage logs, keep receipts, make notes on your receipts, note the business purpose if in question, pay particular attention to the requirements of particular deductions (such as mileage and meal deductions) and you should have nothing to fear.

Audit Response

Don't be the soft target.  It is nothing sinister, It is just human nature, but the IRS loves to audit people they intimidate.  They hate to audit people who intimidate them.  You can bet Donald Trump doesn't get audited much.

That is one reason we insist on handling the IRS for you.  We don't want you intimidated.  Let them try it on us.  We are used to it and we are not easily intimidated.

The IRS

For the past few years, the wheels have been coming off at the IRS.  It is actually beginning to get a lot better.  But if is still far from perfect.  So you and expect anything at the audit level.

Don't worry.  Some audits are difficult, but you won't get railroaded.  The Constitution contains two due process clauses.  You will get every opportunity to make your case.  It may be difficult but we will make our way through it.

IRS appeals is our first safety switch is IRS appeals.  That is where all (most) competent agents are. So far, we have always gotten a decent, sane, competent agent in Appeals. 

If it doesn't work there, the final safety switch is always tax court, which oddly enough gets us another shot at appeals.
