Professional Obligation
As a firm, we have an obligation to our clients to provide proficient professional accounting services.  if we are to continue to out perform other firms we need more professionals proficient in the art of accounting.

Your education and experience provide the foundation upon which to build a solid career.  We will provide the bricks and mortar, in the form of training, mentoring and guidance.  it takes time to achieve proficiency, but we expect progress to be steady and measurable.

From a character standpoint, we expect our professionals to act professionally, take the initiative, be reliable, be honorable, be dependable, be honest, be forthright, be thorough, be confident, be discreet, be organized, be critical, be skeptical, be trainable, be responsive, be dedicated and be able to perform on their own & as a part of a team of professionals.

We will review your performance with you regularly.  We are presently developing a new system of reviewing that will more clearly highlight your progress and point out areas that need improvement.

Pay raises will depend more on your performance than on your status as a CPA, FSE, EA or other certification.

Our Responsibility
As a firm who looks at you as a valuable participant in our long term firm and professional goals, we also have significant responsibility to you.

First of all, it is our responsibility to look at you as a responsible professional, to treat you with respect & courtesy and provide the infrastructure & professional  environment that enables you to perform your tasks efficiently, enjoyably and comfortably with a minimum of disruption.

It is also our responsibility to provide the work environment, training, guidance and exposure to develop proficiency in the art and practice of accountancy, which shall include, accounting, auditing, consulting, forensics, business income tax, personal income tax, and payroll preparation and reporting.

We are on the verge of outgrowing our location, but we have modern 2nd story offices.  Everyone has access to windows with views.  We provide health insurance and a liberal policy on leave.  We do not require a 40 hour work week, 8 hour work days or overtime.  We are flexible on time.  Any creative flexible schedule you may come up with will at least be considered.  However, if you are not dedicated to contributing actively to our professional goals, you may as well not apply.

Channels of Communication
As a firm, we favor open flowing channels of communication, and it is our responsibility to to provide them, and to provide a mechanism to address any shortcomings you may note in our approach.

Should you ever find that our infrastructure or work environment is failing you in some way, we expect you to make us aware of that.

If the channels of communications are clogged, you are welcome to march yourself up to the managing principal's office, or any other office in the firm, and make your views heard.

We will consider anything you tell us and we will report back to you on our eventual determination.  But that is not to say we will agree or we will jump through hoops just because you present them. 

This is a firm intent on providing the best professional work environment available, and if we don't provide it we want to know about it.  And we want to know how we can improve.  We do not mind blunt statements.

Professional Development
Recently, an intern marched into our managing principal's office and bluntly told him our training methods did not meet her standards so she was quitting. 

Her remarks troubled him.  After considering them for some time he came to the following conclusion.

if we were developing piano players, we would definitely provide step by step instructions until our students became competent playing Chopin and Mozart and other great masters.  But we are taking educated professionals and molding them into self reliant, self starting, proficient professionals capable of applying professional judgment to deal with the unknown and the unknowable in a professional manner.

We believe our present approach of providing buddies, mentors and frequent reviews, and applying pressure on you to develop your own abilities is the superior approach.

Like watching Congress making laws or butchers making sausage, it is not always pretty.  But it is the best system so far devised for developing skilled professionals.

We also provide unlimited continuing education through DU both in Grand Junction and at the DU campus in Denver.  Ask for the schedule.

Our Needs
Because we can add new clients essentially whenever we want them, the big hurdle to meeting our professional goals is finding capable and proficient professional staff.  Whatever you want to specialize in, we can grow around you as you develop expertise.
